SPP’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Statement

The SPP recognises the value and strength that EDI can bring to all organisations.

Both in the SPP and in the wider Pensions arena, we are committed to promoting equity, diversity and inclusivity – so that everyone feels respected, valued for their individuality and able to be their authentic selves.

To this end, we have these key Intentions.

Previous Events

The SPP has run numerous EDI events, including:

  • An event in April 2025 focusing on the pension savings gaps, featuring speakers from the Pensions Policy Institute and Aston University.
  • A joint event with O:Pen in November 2024 with the former Chair of The Pensions Regulator, Sarah Smart.
  • An event in October 2024, which discussed alternate routes into pensions, neurodiversity in the workplace, developing engagement with more inclusive communication and the pensions savings gap.
  • An event in March 2023, which focused on potential solutions to the intergenerational pensions gap, how trustees are impacting board diversity and how powerful communications can be in improving engagement.

Thought Leadership Papers

We published six separate papers on subjects including neurodiversity, social mobility, disability, gender, LGBTQ+ before bringing them all together in a single Inclusive Futures paper in November 2025.

The SPP’s Inclusive Chairing guidance and associated recording has proved popular, being viewed thousands of times and utilised by those in the pensions industry and further afield.

In 2025, SPP surveyed its members in relation to apprenticeship schemes, finding that most firms in the pensions industry (52%) now offer some kind of apprenticeship programme.
